Tort Measure Protects Big Business From Legitimate Suits

Arkin - On Nov. 2, California voters enacted Proposition 64 to add new restrictions on actions filed under Business and Professions Code Section 17200, the Unfair Competition Law. According to its supporters, Proposition 64 sprang from the need to protect small-business owners from unscrupulous lawyers, like the Trevor Law Group, who threatened to file shakedown lawsuits, without an actual client, in order to extort settlements.
