Redevelopment Litigation Faces Uncertainty

Lawyers are closely watching how Gov. Brown's proposed legislation to end redevelopment agencies will deal with the payment of such judgments if it turns out such agencies are on the hook for damages but are no longer around.

In the developer's eyes, La Quinta and the city's redevelopment agency backed out of a legally binding agreement to buy an apartment complex and turn it into affordable housing.


But Gov. Jerry Brown's proposal to scrap redevelopment agencies throws an unusual legal wrinkle into cases around the state like LQV Partners' $20 million lawsuit against La Quinta.
