Court nixes juvenile's murder verdict

Reversing a juvenile's murder conviction, an appellate court ruled on Wednesday that when a 13-year-old child told police, "Could I have an attorney?" the officers should have stopped questioning him.

Reversing a juvenile's murder conviction, an appellate court ruled on Wednesday that when a 13-year-old child told police, "Could I have an attorney?" the officers should have stopped questioning him.


Los Angeles Juvenile Court Referee Benjamin J. Campos erred in not suppressing the child's confession, which he made after requesting an attorney, the court of appeal found.
