Plaintiffs' attorneys, judges aim to rein in demurrers
A first-of-its-kind California effort to curb the use of demurrers in civil cases is moving forward in Sacramento, as plaintiff's attorneys and judges complain the objections are snarling up courts' law and motion calendars.

SACRAMENTO - As litigants struggle with underfunded courts and packed trial calendars, some judges and tort lawyers are lining up behind an effort to crack down on the use of demurrers - objections favored by defense attorneys to strike down plaintiffs' causes of action.
