Appellate panel hears argument in case over lead in baby food, canned fruit

In a closely watched Prop. 65 case, major food companies are fighting claims that they failed to warn the public about lead in their products.

A state appellate panel hearing claims that major food companies failed to warn the public about lead in baby food and canned fruit did not reveal its leanings during oral argument Tuesday.


The closely-watched case could affect several other lawsuits involving lead in food, and a victory for the food companies here would make it harder for plaintiffs to bring similar claims under Proposition 65.
