Bankruptcy cases decline 13 percent in 2014

The continuing drop in bankruptcy cases points to economic recovery, but attorneys with boutique firms say the trend is hurting business.

Bankruptcy filings continued a four-year slide in 2014, dropping 12.6 percent nationwide and 24 percent in California.


The reduction in filings may be good news for the economy, but it comes at a cost to bankruptcy attorneys. Many specialty firms that thrived in the post-recession years have merged or been absorbed by larger business law firms.
