Defendant firms faired well in 2014 'unfinished business' cases

This year featured major victories for firms facing lawsuits from the bankrupty estates of defunct firms they hired partners from. Two recent rulings say the firms don't have to pay back profits from matters attorneys brought with them.

2014 saw two of the biggest victories thus far in the battle to determine whether law firms that absorbed attorneys from bankrupt competitors must pay the estates of the defunct firms for profits they made from matters the new hires brought with them.
