Forum Column - By David Steinberg - Recently, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held that the Pledge of Allegiance violates the U.S. Constitution. In Newdow v. U.S. Congress , a three-judge panel held that the Pledge improperly includes the words "under God." The court concluded that even the purely voluntary Pledge of Allegiance amounts to an establishment of religion in violation of the First Amendment.
