Orrick Ex-Partner Gets Slap for Not Acting in Client's Best Interest

Multimillionaire businesswoman Fritzi Benesch sought $16.9 million in damages from lawyer William Hoisington. She claimed he failed to tell her she no longer held controlling shares in her clothing company Fritzi California.

SAN FRANCISCO - A retired Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe partner accused of malpractice by a wealthy client escaped a large verdict this week, but got a slap on the wrist from a jury that found he didn't act in his client's best interest.

While William Hoisington breached his fiduciary duty, his client did not suffer any harm, a San Francisco Superior Court jury found.
