In March, the Los Angeles Times published two editorials criticizing a new law that asks California's judges to voluntarily disclose their gender identity and sexual orientation. The writers argued that the new questions, incorporated into an annual demographic survey, were an invasion of privacy and not effective because forty percent of judges did not respond.
