Lawyers cautious as South Korea gears up to release new U.S. firm rules

As South Korea prepares to unveil new rules for U.S. law firms operating in the country, attorneys in California voice caution about whether they will try to take advantage of them.

Two years ago, South Korea began a three-phase process for clearing the way for foreign law firms to practice there. The move, part of a liberalization that accompanied ratification of a trade agreement between the U.S. in South Korea, was ballyhooed by U.S. law firms that saw Seoul as the next step in the pivot toward Asia.
