California's water future in hands of voters

Late on the last night of the legislative session, the parties involved in the water bond process hammered out an agreement. Assembly Republican legislators held their support until they felt Gov. Gray Davis was committed to future studies of potential surface water storage. In the end the Assembly vote was 67 in favor and only 12 in opposition, mirroring the 30-to-6 vote in the Senate. The almost $2 billion water bond addressed several issues and includes the following funding:
