Two Months On, Community Court in the Tenderloin Still Prompts Debate

San Francisco's Community Justice Center, which combines court and social services, has stirred controversy since before it opened in early March. Now that it's up and running, critics remain skeptical.

SAN FRANCISCO - An afternoon hearing at San Francisco County Superior Court's new Community Justice Center had ended an hour earlier, yet a woman scheduled to appear before Commissioner Ron Albers was just arriving.

Albers, who had already retired to his chambers, chuckled, threw his robe back on and returned to the bench to hear her case.
