Judicial Council Draws Up Legislative Wish List

The courts want 50 new judges and reforms to their pension and the foster care systems. But with dollars scarce in Sacramento, the judiciary may have to dig into its own pocket for the money.

SAN FRANCISCO - Fingers crossed in a bad economy, the Judicial Council on Tuesday approved a wish list of legislation it would like to seek in the coming year.

The council, the policy-making body for the state's trial courts, is considering sponsoring legislation in 2009 to create 50 new seats on the Superior Court and carry out reforms to the foster care and judges' pension systems.
