Lengthy veto of sex abuse bill draws criticism

Gov. Brown blasts the proposed law for its specific focus on private institutions

SACRAMENTO - A California bill that would have allowed new lawsuits against the Catholic Church and other private nonprofits for their role in covering up sexual abuse of minors drew intense lobbying and bitter debate this year.
