Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a bill that would have required law enforcement to obtain warrants before asking Web companies to turn over emails or other online communications. Although existing law requires warrants in some cases, SB 467 by Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, would have expanded the number of instances where warrants would be needed in California.
