Bill to curtail courts' ability to use contractors moves forward

AB 566 was approved by the Senate Appropriations committee Friday after several amendments.

A bill that would severely curtail courts' ability to contract out for services, AB 566 by Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont, moved out of the Senate Appropriations committee Friday.


The bill was amended so that it would sunset in 2020, and court interpreters have now been excluded from workers whose jobs would be protected under the bill, according to Cory Jasperson, head lobbyist with the judicial branch. The bran...
