New lawyers may have to pledge 'civility oath'

New California lawyers being sworn in to the State Bar soon may have to promise to be nice under a proposed "civility oath" sent out for public comment Friday.

New California lawyers being sworn in to the State Bar soon may have to promise to be nice. Bar leaders put a proposed "civility oath" out for public comment late Friday, and they anticipate forwarding it to the state Supreme Court in October.

If the court adopts the addition to the attorney oath, every new lawyer would promise to "strive to conduct myself at all times with dignity, courtesy and integrity" in addition ...
