Legislators promise hearings on solitary confinement

Two state lawmakers will oversee public hearings as soon as this fall on the use of solitary confinement in state prisons, a move aimed to address a weeks-long hunger strike among inmates.

Two Democratic state legislators announced Friday that they will oversee public hearings as soon as this fall on the use of solitary confinement in the state's prisons.

State Senator Loni Hancock, D-Berkeley, and Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, both of whom head their respective public safety committees, will hold the hearings.
