Cantil-Sakauye wants to spur three-strikes resentencing

Reacting to a report that 2,000 eligible inmates are still awaiting a hearing, the state Supreme Court chief justice is offering assigned judges.

California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye is exploring how to expedite the resentencing of convicts eligible for reduced prison terms after the state reformed its three-strikes law last year.


The move comes after a recent report by Stanford University's law school and the NAACP estimated that roughly 2,000 eligible inmates are still waiting for hearings, 800 of them in Los Angeles.
