Protecting yourself is not 'embracing rape culture'

The term "rape culture" describes a social environment in which rape is not only pervasive, but normalized and due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality, accepted as given. Some phenomena that accompany rape culture include dismissive approaches toward rape allegations, lenient police and judicial treatment of perpetrators, and the tendency to blame rape victims for their own victimization.
