Easing of flammability requirements for furniture upheld

A Sacramento judge on Friday upheld the state's recently revised furniture flammability standards that aim to cut use of toxic flame retardants.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Michael P. Kenny on Friday upheld the state's recently revised furniture flammability standards that aim to cut use of toxic flame retardants.

The leading manufacturer chemical flame retardants, Philadelphia-based Chemtura Corp., sued the state of California earlier this year to block the rules, arguing it violated state law and threatened public safety.
