The state Assembly passed a bill Thursday to close California's sentencing gap between powder and crack cocaine.
SB 1010, introduced by state Sen. Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, would lower the current punishment for possession of crack cocaine from three to five years in jail down to the two to four year sentence imposed for the same powder cocaine offense.
