Chief Justice tells State Bar going through crises can make it stronger

Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye told bar leaders the agency's challenges present opportunity for wide-scale changes.

MONTEREY -- When Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye became chief justice of California in 2011, she remembers facing a decimated budget, difficulties with a computer system project and "an angry mob."

Confronting the issues was an uphill battle, but presented a chance to make significant changes in the court system and emerge stronger, she told State Bar leaders Tuesday.
