Federal judge jails lawyer for contempt

Attorney who won settlement for homeless woman beaten by CHP officer refused to produce her retainer agreement or tell Judge Otis D. Wright II when she realized her client might be incompetent.

A federal judge has jailed an attorney for contempt for refusing to disclose how she learned her homeless client might be mentally incompetent, or to produce her fee agreement with the client, who in September won a $1.5 million settlement from the California Highway Patrol.
