Equal pay bill inspires debate

A new bill would increase protections against gender-based pay discrimination by reducing employers' defenses under California law. But the legislation could also spur frivolous discrimination suits, according to some observers.

SACRAMENTO - A California bill introduced last week to fight disparity in pay between men and women could increase successful lawsuits against businesses, but some observers say the legislation could also spur frivolous discrimination complaints.
