With disputes over standard essential patents (SEPs) keeping the courts busy, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) adopted an updated intellectual property rights policy on Feb. 8 that confirms and clarifies the rules applicable to SEPs. The IEEE is a developer of global standards in a variety of fields, including telecommunications, power and energy, and biomedical and health care.
