Baffled federal appellate judges asked the state Supreme Court for help Thursday in solving a labor law puzzle over the meaning of "workweek."


The answers "are of extreme importance to tens of thousands" of California employees, a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel said, adding that no clear controlling state law precedent exists.
