Courts set to see changes to funding for child welfare attorneys

After years of complaints, the judicial branch is looking seriously at pegging funding for court-ordered dependency counsel to court's workloads. The push comes as Gov. Jerry Brown urged such a reform in his Jan. 9 budget proposal.

SACRAMENTO - For years, courts in California have received far less funding for court-appointed counsel to represent minors in dependency court than they need. Now, attorneys who have long said that the little state funding courts receive isn't fairly allocated are praising a decision by Gov. Jerry Brown to push the judiciary to address the disparity.
