Legal Staff Cuts Costs Despite Big Settlement

OAKLAND - City Attorney John Russo has closed the books on his second full fiscal year as Oakland's city attorney. Even though he's had to lay off six attorneys and pay out several million dollars to resolve claims against the city, he has been able to reduce the city's legal spending by 16 percent.
