A group of Oakland renters' organizations is trying to get law-and-motion Judge James Richman reassigned to a courtroom that doesn't handle landlord-tenant disputes on grounds that he favors landlords.
Led by the Oakland Tenants Union, the renters' advocates presented an informal petition signed by more than 2,500 renters and their supporters to Alameda County Superior Court Presiding Judge Harry Sheppard.
