Man convicted for domestic violence sues for right to own a firearm

A man has sued the California Department of Justice, claiming he was improperly denied a gun license despite two court orders stating his right to own a weapon had been restored.

SACRAMENTO — A man sued the California Department of Justice, claiming he was improperly denied a gun license despite two court orders stating his right to own a weapon had been restored.

The complaint, filed this week in Sacramento County Superior Court, is an attempt to assert an exemption to the Lautenberg Amendment, a 1997 federal law that bars people with domestic violence misdemeanors from owning guns.
