Danette Myers, State Bar vice president, said eventually all licensed California attorneys will be re-fingerprinted as desired by the state Legislature. That will allow the bar to receive arrest alerts about those lawyers.
The State Bar has signed a contract to be notified when licensed attorneys are arrested and convicted, though the deal does not yet require already-practicing lawyers to be re-fingerprinted.
The contract with the California Department of Justice that the bar entered into late last month will cover prospective lawyers who submitted their fingerprints on July 1 or after, and later became licensed.
