New law exempts employers from paying attorney fees in some cases

Previously, the prevailing party in wage cases could win attorney fees.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law Monday a bill that will exempt employees from paying opponents' attorney fees if the opponents lose cases seeking unpaid wages, unless the court finds an employee brought a case "in bad faith."


The law previously held that the prevailing party could receive attorney fees whether they were workers or employers.
