State will track disabled and veteran judges

Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law a bill to ask judges and judicial candidates about disabilities and previous military service.

Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday signed into law a bill to require the state to track the disabled or veteran status of judicial nominees, appointees and sitting judges. Attorneys and judges have the option to provide the information.


AB 1005, which will take effect 2015, was pushed by Los Angeles deputy public defender David Marsh, who is himself disabled. Marsh said in June he'd proposed the bill to Sen. Luis Alejo, D-Salina...
