Diversion of court funds is shortsighted and will worsen fiscal difficulties, says Bob Balgenorth, President of State Building and Construction Trades Council of California.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR COLUMN

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's proposal ("Preserving Access to Justice in An Economic Storm," April 28) to divert money designated for courthouse construction and renovation to fund courts' ongoing operational expenses is not only shortsighted, but would serve, in the long term, to worsen the very fiscal difficulties he cites.

Yes, courts, along with all other branches of government, are facing funding...
