Lawyers talked about their courtroom victories at a breakfast legal education event Thursday hosted by the Daily Journal in downtown Los Angeles. Edelman and Neuman scored a major victory for the Dole Food Co. last year, when they uncovered massive fraud behind lawsuits that claimed the company's use of pesticides on banana plantations in Nicaragua in the 1970s left workers sterilized. The Gibson Dunn lawyers were honored by the Daily Journal in February with its Top Defense Verdict of 2009. O'Donnell and Keller garnered the largest plaintiffs' verdict in California in 2009 -- $350 million -- on behalf of venture capital firm Auerbach Acquisition Associates. The venture capital firm bought the suit after an entrepreneur reneged on a deal to let it in on the ground floor of iPayment, a company that provides Internet credit card transaction services. O'Donnell and Keller were honored by the Daily Journal in January as the Top Plaintiffs' Verdict of 2009.
