California Supreme Court Associate Justice Ming W. Chin addressed volunteer attorneys at Alameda County Bar Association’s annual Volunteer Legal Services Corp. dinner, on May 20 at Scott’s Seafood in Oakland. Chin was the first Asian American to serve as president of the association in 1997. This year’s Volunteer of the Year was Brian Doucette of Bialson Bergen & Schwab in Palo Alto for his 200 hours of pro bono work to 13 clients in 2009. Nikki Clark of the Law Office of Nikki Clark in Oakland won the Mentor of the Year award for volunteering for more than 100 hours in 2009 at legal clinics and mentoring volunteers new to family law. Additionally, a record 18 volunteers received he State Bar’s Wiley W. Manuel Certifi cate for Pro Bono Legal Service for contributing at least 50 pro bono hours.
