The increase comes as the State Bar is set to administer a two-day exam rather than three.

Gayle Murphy, the State Bar’s senior director of admissions, suggested a shift from a three-day to a two-day bar exam may have caused the surprising surge in test-takers this year, despite controversies over the difficulty in passing.

The falling passage rate on the California bar exam has apparently not reduced interest in the state’s attorney licensing test, which will be two days instead of three starting next week.

The State Bar says about 20 percent more people have signed up to take this month’s general bar exam compared to the number who took last July’s test.
