Federal judge dismisses suits against Renovate America, government partners

The suits alleged the company used deceptive means to implement its HERO Loans program, which is designed to encourage homeowners to buy energy-efficient solar panels, window insulation and air-conditioning units.

LOS ANGELES — A U.S. judge dismissed all federal claims against the largest provider of energy efficent home improvement loans, and sent the case back to state court. Property Assessed Clean Energy programs (PACE) — including the Home Energy Renovation Opportunity program (HERO) — are not subject to the Truth in Lending Act or the Home Ownership Equity Protection Act, which the homeowner plaintiffs alleged were violated, U.S. District Judge Andre Birotte Jr. ruled.<...
