Jury hits Nissan for $24.9M in brake failure, but found no malice or fraud

A Los Angeles Superior Court jury delivered a $24.9 million verdict against Nissan North America Friday, finding the car manufacturer’s failure to recall a 2004 model Infiniti contributed to a 2012 accident that killed three, but found no malice or fraud.

LOS ANGELES — A superior court jury delivered a $24.9 million verdict against Nissan North America Friday, finding the car manufacturer’s failure to recall a 2004 model Infiniti contributed to a 2012 accident that killed three.

The jury did not, however, find that Nissan acted with malice or fraud, which would have opened up the car maker to damages closer to the collective $231 million plaintiffs’ attorneys were seeking.
