Deputy Attorney General Erika Hiramatsu will be the next chair of the Committee of Bar Examiners, a panel facing increased scrutiny in the midst of falling passage rates on the California bar exam.

Hiramatsu, who was tapped for the role by the State Bar’s board earlier this month, said she is keeping an open mind about whether the passing score on the exam should be lowered.
