Toxicologist witness called first in talc trial

A board-certified pharmacologist and toxicologist testifying as the plaintiff’s first witness in the Johnson & Johnson talcum bellwether trial said Thursday that using the powder produces “an inflammatory response” that leads to cancer.

LOS ANGELES — A board-certified pharmacologist and toxicologist testifying as the plaintiff’s first witness in the Johnson & Johnson talcum bellwether trial said Thursday that using the powder produces “an inflammatory response” that leads to cancer.

Laura Plunkett testified in the Los Angeles County Superior Court trial that talc can migrate to the ovaries and cause inflammation that could lead to developing ovarian cancer.
