Aliso Canyon injunction request running on fumes as LA judge denies request, claiming no jurisdiction

In front of a courtroom packed to capacity with press and protesters, a Los Angeles judge denied an injunction against the resumption of natural gas injections at the Aliso Canyon facility that leaked 100,000 tons of methane in 2015, claiming he had no jurisdiction to grant it.

LOS ANGELES — Faced with an overflowing courtroom of groaning protesters, Superior Court Judge John Shepard Wiley Jr. opted against the gavel and calmly declared he had no jurisdiction to give them what they wanted.

Nevertheless, Wiley praised the efforts of Skip Miller, of Miller Barondess LLP, who said the judge was following the wrong law, and immediately appealed.
