9th Circuit debates whether former LA County undersheriff was member of police gang

A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel debated Monday afternoon whether former Los Angeles County Undersheriff Paul K. Tanaka was a member of a gang during the oral arguments for his appeal from his conviction for conspiracy to obstruct justice and endeavoring to obstruct justice.

A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel debated Monday whether former Los Angeles County Undersheriff Paul K. Tanaka was a member of a gang.

At oral arguments, Tanaka’s attorney made a plea to the court to overturn Tanaka’s conviction for conspiracy to obstruct justice and endeavoring to obstruct justice, arguing before Circuit Judges Stephen R. Reinhardt, Alex Kozinski and Morgan B. Christen.
