Court clerk sentenced to 11 years for ticket-fixing racket

A federal judge tacked two more years onto the prosecution’s recommendation.

A federal judge on Friday rejected a prosecutor’s recommendation of nine years in prison for a former Orange County court clerk convicted in a bribery scheme and instead imposed more than two additional years behind bars.

Jose Lopez Jr.’s criminal conduct “was not an aberration from his character. This was his character,” said U.S. District Judge Josephine L. Staton, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office.
