This year Sobel forced the City of Los Angeles to grapple with key issues on police abuse, homelessness and immigration. She organized legal representation for 5,000 students who were cited for walking out of schools during last year's immigrant-rights rallies. Sobel now represents people who say LAPD officers beat them during a May Day immigrant-rights rally at MacArthur Park, and is challenging a Los Angeles ordinance that bars homeless people from sleeping on the street.
