Gov. Jerry Brown signed bills Tuesday that will help attorneys determine potential juror bias in criminal cases and give judges guidelines for allowing more voir dire time in civil cases.
SACRAMENTO — Changes are coming to the jury selection process, thanks to a pair of bills Gov. Jerry Brown signed this week.
On Tuesday, Brown gave his approval to AB 1541, a bill designed to help attorneys in criminal cases determine if a potential juror has a bias that could influence their decisions. The next day, he signed SB 658, which sets guidelines for judges to allow more time for voir dire in civil cases.
