9th Circuit mulls Anti-Terrorism Act lawsuit against Twitter
What is believed to be the first lawsuit seeking to find a social media company liable for deaths caused by terrorist attacks came before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Wednesday. The panel of judges seemed skeptical that Twitter could be held liable for the deaths under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
During oral arguments in a lawsuit seeking to hold Twitter Inc. partially liable for the deaths of American contractors killed in a 2015 terrorist attack, Judge Milan D. Smith Jr. of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals questioned whether allowing lawsuits like the one before the court Wednesday would bankrupt an entire industry in a matter of weeks.
