The state Supreme Court heard arguments Wednesday on the question of whether Proposition 57 applies to juvenile defendants whose cases were in progress when voters passed the ballot measure.

The original case arose when prosecutors direct-filed a criminal complaint against a minor in adult court in March 2016. Voters passed Proposition 57 eight months later, eliminating direct filing.
